Hello,
I am considering the Jewels of Egypt tour that leaves on April 22, 2007, and I have a few questions:
1. I am a female travelling by myself, and I am interested in seeing a few more sites around Cairo; I think I will book an extra day or two at the hotel following the tour. Will I be safe to visit to museums/sites/etc. on my own?
2. Do I need to bring a sleeping bag or sleep sheet for this tour?
3. How much spending money should I budget? I know this question has been posted before, and I know it is difficult to answer, but any input from people that have been on this specific tour would be great!
4. The return flight that I am considering leaves Cairo at 4am. How difficult will it be for me to get to the airport at this time? (i.e. is it safe for me to take a cab by myself at that time of night?)
5. Am I able to suntan on the MS Melodie in a Western-style bikini (not skimpy, but it does show midriff)? What is appropriate to wear when at the Red Sea?
Thanks in advance!

Hi fellow Canadian!
Just wanted to reply to say this is the tour I'm planning on signing up for today. I will be going with my friend. We are both 23 years old. Look forward to meeting you if you choose to come.

Hi A-Miranda,
Thanks for your questions and apologies for the slightly delayed reply.
You will be perfectly safe in Cairo on your own and many of our travellers do this. Egypt remains one of the safest countries to visit with low street-crime levels and police on every corner. You can even arrange a private taxi through your hotel to take you around all of Cairo's main attractions if you like.
A sleeping bag is not required on this tour as all bedding is provided. You might like to take a sleeping sheet with you for the overnight train journeys as the air con can sometimes be too good and get a little chilly but it's not essential.
It really is hard to answer your question about spending money. I personally spent approximately

Hi A-Miranda
I have just returned from the Jewels of Egypt trip. You are in for such a treat! It was the most amazing tour I have ever done! You do not have to worry about being on your own, it is really safe. (In the bazaars , they just hassle you a lot to make a sale)... In any case, if it was anything like our tour, there was always someone willing to go with you!
Take enough money for the optional extras and more. The Imaginative traveller advise on how much money to allow for was accurate, but rather take more as we did extras that were not even listed. I wanted to do extra snorkeling at Dohab (not even listed) and this was arranged for me, including the jeep ride there. Our entire group joined me, which was great. It was amazing!
On the Melodie you could wear anything you like. And even the Red Sea. At Hurghada , you swim/snorkel off the sister hotels private beach.
A sarong was invaluable though when walking from one place to the next.
Definately don't need sleeping bag or sheet. All provided...
Please feel free to ask any questions.
YOu are going to have the time of your life.
Enjoy!
Regards
Hillary
