I just returned from the Jewels of Egypt trip and I would like to share my experience. Prior to this trip, I had never been on a tour before and didn't know what to expect. Now, I will definitely be taking more tours, especially with Imaginative Traveller!
First of all, Egypt is a magical country. Every day on the tour was better than the previous days. On one day (mainly a travel day), my Mom and I said to each other, "since this is a travel day, it probably won't be as amazing as the other days". Well, we were wrong...that day was just as wonderful as the others. The tour is very well organized. I was initially concerned about feeling rushed during the tour, but we always felt that we had enough time to do everything we wanted to do.
Egyptians are by far the nicest people I have ever met. Everywhere we went, people would shout Hello and Welcome. One day while walking around Cairo, a lady stopped me to tell me I have beautiful hair. The tour leader we had, Mohamed, was AMAZING. He made our group feel like a family. He wanted everyone to have the trip of a lifetime and he went above and beyond his job duties to ensure that everyone was happy. I loved having a local tour leader because you could feel how much he loves his country. When I take my next tour of Egypt with Imaginative Traveller, I will make sure he is my guide once again!
The Nile cruise on the M/S Melodie was phenomenal. What made it extra special was the staff. They all truly care about their guests. One night, a staff member spent an hour showing me magic card tricks. When the staff learned that I was trying to learn a few Arabic phrases, they all began teaching me. At every meal they were teaching me new phrases. Each time I went to the reception desk to get my room key, they would hide it and refuse to give it to me until I could successfully ask for it in Arabic. Mohamed, my tour leader, even began teaching me how to write Arabic! I now know how to write my name. Another highlight of the trip was having tea with the captain.
If anyone is considering taking a holiday with Imaginative Traveller, or the Jewels of Egypt tour, definitely go for it! You will have an amazing time!
I loved my time in Egypt so much, that I am planning on returning to Cairo for a few months in the near future to take Arabic classes and then travel even more around the country!
I could go on and on, but this is already a fairly long post. What I'm really trying to say is that no matter what, I would have had a wonderful holiday in Egypt, but all of the people were what made it one of the best trips of my life! Thank you so much, Imaginative Traveller. I can't wait to book my next tour with you. I don't know how you can top Jewels of Egypt!

I'd second your opinion
I'd second your opinion about the Jewels of Egypt tour being wonderful. We had Emad as a tour leader and he was super amazing! I would definitely recommend ImTrav's Egypt tours just for Emad alone.
But while the staff of the Melodie were friendly and helpful, I found them rather annoying after a while. In my tour group, I certainly wasn't the only one to find them so, either.
Their playfulness is amusing at first but it becomes grating after the 5th time they take your plate and you lean over to let them and them they switch sides so you lean over the other way then they switch again. Just take the bloody plate already!
Another note, the Melodie's laundry service was fine for me but it turned another guy's whites pink.

Re: Jewels of Egypt is Meya Meya!
I did the JOE tour back in December '03 & just loved it!!! It was MAGICAL swimming in the Red Sea on Xmas day, even though I was as sick as a dog!!
And you are so right, tour leaders & Melodie staff are truly amazing!! I have to say that each tour that has included time onboard the Melodie, the crew have gone out of their way to ensure I was happy. For this I will remain forever thankful....you're a great bunch of guys!! In fact they are Tammam! (perfect)
I have many, many happy memories of travelling through Egypt, with ImTrav! Am always hopeful that some day I'll be able to return. But so far luck has not been on my side. Maybe someday soon......Inshallah!
Glad you had a great time & that Egypt has touched your soul, as she did mine. Kindest regards.........Debbie

As a JOE traveller in 2006 I would like to second all that.
Glad you had a fantastic time.

Re: Jewels of Egypt
Totally agree with the comments.
I've done the Jewels of Egypt tour twice (2005 on my own and late last year with my Mum) and despite having a lot more of the world to see yet, I wouldn't be able to turn down another stint in Egypt if it was offered.
I've lost track of how many people I've recommended ImTrav to just because of my experiences with them on this tour.
The Melodie becomes a floating home away from home - large enough to be able to spread out, but small enough that you get to know everyone and the staff become friends.
The best part was quite a few of them remembered me from my first trip (okay so I was the crazy blonde girl who preferred to sleep on the top deck rather than in her cabin :-)) and there was lots of hugs all around.
Like you Jen they also spent time improving my Arabic - we even went and watched them playing soccer one night (on a concrete court - yeow!!!).
JOE is one of those tours that suits almost everyone, and the free time means no two trips are the same.
Damn, now I really wish I was back there!
