I'm doing the Nile and Sinai tour at the beg of October with a friend but we are then separating and I want to catch the ferry to Jordan to go to Petra for a few days. I am a female traveller. Is it easy to organise a trip to Petra with a local company when I get there? How "safe" is Jordan for a woman travelling alone?

Re: Jordan - alone?
Hi Jackie,
Organizing a trip to Petra would not be a problem, there will be plenty of companies vying for your custom. You can get to Jordan via either the Ferry or Hydrofoil from Nuweba port. We would recommend you use the Hydrofoil, it is more expensive but you are less likely to attract attention as a woman on her own.
Your main problem as a woman alone is the bus ride from Cairo to Nuweiba port. This is something we would not recommend you do alone, you are likely to attract a lot of unwanted attention. If you are a seasoned traveller you may feel you could deal with it, but if you're in any doubt at all find another method of transport.
Have you thought about flying between Cairo and Amman?
