I'm going on the Middle East Odyssey this coming May 19th tour and have a couple of questions:
1. When travelling from Amman to Petra, what road is taken? Is it the "King's highway"? If not, is it possible to go through that highway by some alternative means?
2. Once in Petra, do we have the option of the "Petra by Night" tour? Everyone that I talked to recommended it....

Thanks for your questions.
I will have to check your first question for you afraid as ashamedly I do not know the answer off the top of my head. Once I hear back from our office in the Middle East I'll let you know.
I'm afraid you will not have the opportunity to watch 'Petra by night' as this only takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and your tour arrives at Petra on the Tuesday evening (29th May) and leaves late on Wednesday afternoon. Sorry about that; you do get to spend a lot of time at the site on the Wednesday and can fully explore all over on this day.

I may be able to shed a little light.
We went to Petra via the Dead Sea - so not straight there at all - so probably not the King's Highway. Also we went a little out of the way to get some great photos coming out of the Rift Valley.
You will be well and truly shagged after a day at Petra, and I highly recommend you take the option of a traditional middle eastern/roman bath - there is one at hotel and it ROCKED! It was a fantastic way to ease the muscles after walking up and down all those hills at Amman and exploring Jerash.

We are using the Desert Highway, as the group might stop at the Dead Sea and them continue to Petra.
If you need a private transfer through the king's highway, This can be organized at a cost of GBP45

I'm assuming this would be the cost of a car (with a driver) to take us to Petra through the King's highway. So I could share it with other people if they are interested, right?
