I am going on the nile safari tour in april and would like to know what sort of luggage to take[rucksack or holdall type bag] .
How often and how long will I have to carry it for during the tour?
also how much of the West bank at Luxor will we visit [as well as the valley of the Kings}?
Thanks!

Re: luggage and the west bank
Hello Jo,
I did that tour almost 3 years ago. I took a suitcase on rollers & a small backpack. However I can't recommend a suitcase (it died in action)I now have a softer sort of bag on rollers that I will take next time. You have to carry/drag your bags when you go to the bus from the Hotel in Cairo & from the bus to the train. This was a fair distance from memory. So don't overpack & I would have rollers on anything I took. But make certain it is sturdy as they will be thrown onto the top of a bus at times.....I kid you not!! There are couple of other places you have to cart your own luggage.
I used the backpack for carrying camera's, film, water, tissues etc.
After we rode the donkeys to the Valley of the Kings, I can't remember which tombs we went into now. We had to climb a steep hill to where the donkeys waited, then rode over the top of Hatshepsut's Temple, to some other Tombs. These were very small & only a few people could go in at a time. However the colours in these Tomb's are worth a look ...unless you are very claustraphobic. We then rode back to the west bank. Most of the tour group I was with went back to the other side. However myself & another tour member had lunch near the Nile & then got a taxi to take us to Hatshepsut's Temple. This Temple is well worth seeing. Hatshepsut was the only female pharoah in Egypt, she must've been a very strong woman to have such a beautiful temple built for her.
I hope you enjoy your tour, wish I could be there with you. Have a lemon juice for me.
