Well I have got my rucksack, sleeping bag, mosi net had the jabs and the visa ready for my trip to Egypt in November but what will I need clothes wise? I have a few loose shirts and am trying to avoid any tight clothing. Can you get awaying with a swim costume and sarong to cover up on the felucca/Red Sea parts of the trip? Also has anyone who's been got any tips on things they couldn't do without in Egypt?

Re: Luggage In Egypt
Hello Kester,
The Egyptian money is quite smelly & so I carried wet wipes to use after handling it. I also carried tissues for toilet trips.
T shirts are ok, try to keep your clothing as loose as possible. This isn't just for your own comfort, as tight clothing may bring unwanted attention. Keep your shoulders & chest covered, if wearing shorts ...long ones are the go. No short shorts.
Make certain you carry water with you. Buy it from the street vendors (cheaper than the Hotel's), just check that the seals are intact. It may be a good idea to carry a scarf. (These can be purchased very cheaply in Egypt.) If you visit the camel market at Daraw it can get very dusty.
Can't think of anything else at present, I hope you have a great trip ...wish I could be there too. Have a lemon juice for me!
Re: Luggage In Egypt
DO we need backpacks for the Beyond the Pyramids tour or can we get by with rolling luggage (with wheels)?
Re: Luggage In Egypt
Hi Ed,
It is completely your decision with regards to the type of luggage you wish to bring.
A back-pack is the ideal piece of luggage for this particular tour, however people do tend to bring anything from matching suitcases to duffle-bags.
At the end of the day this is your burden. You will not be dragging your belongings up & over mountains etc..but there will be many a time when you will have to manage, move or transport you luggage.
It may be that rolling luggage is best for you? This is no problem at all.
I hope this helps you a little.

Re: Luggage In Egypt
I did Beyond the Pyramids myself with a large bag.For transportation purposes I would not recommend a hard shelled suitcase. I enjoyed the tour very much (and so did the rest of the group). Take a lot of film with you ( also 400 asa film for in the Egyptian Museum, temples and valley of the kings sinceyou may not use flash ).
P.S. it is not mentioned in the iternary but you can do a guided visit to the egyptian museum on the day you do the pyramids.
Some pictures of my tour with lots of links can be found on Http://home.hetnet.nl/~jansmith/index.html
