Hi everyone

I am off to Syria, Jordan and Egypt soon. One problem - I can eat most things but cannot bear the taste of mint - which I believe is used in a lot of Middle Eastern cooking.

Any advice on what to eat without mint? Or shall I pack a lot of hot chili sauce to disguise the taste?

Thanks
Mark

Not sure about jordan and Syria but in Egypt they didn't really use mint... They did sometimes put mint in the tea but usually you do that yourself.

I don't recall any mint in the food in either Jordan or Egypt...

Re: Middle Eastern Cooking and Mint

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your post.

Not all Syrian food contains mint. For example most tea shops offer mint tea, if requested, otherwise it's black tea. Food contains mint but usually in the more local restaruants, you can ask for mint not to be added when ordering food. Your guide is the best person to advise you when you have meal stops on your trip.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Robert
