Has anyone spent extra days in Essaouria and Marrakech? Can you recommend transport and accomm. there?

Re: Morocco
Hi Jenny,
If you're going to do one of our tours in Morocco they all go to Marrakech at some time during the tour. Some of our tours also go to Essaouira, like the MCV (Moroccan Caravan) or the MDY (Morocco Discovery).
If you want to spend more time in either or both of these places, we can book extra accommodation for you at our tour hotels either pre or post tour. You need to request this when booking your tour.
If you want to do a tour that hasn't got Essaouira included, it is easy enough to make your own way there by public bus from Marrakech or Casablanca.
Look forward to seeing you in Morocco next year.

Re: Morocco
Hi Jenny,
I've just returned from an MCV trip and was in Essaouira last week. The Hotel Souiri which Imaginative Traveller uses in Essaouira is a nice place right in the medina close to most attractions and in the thick of the action. It's well worth spending time just chilling out here, (especially after a hectic time in the cities!), as it's very laid back and has a constant cool sea breeze - most refreshing when you're there in the heat of summer.
You can arrange to hop into a public Grand Taxi from Essaouira to Marrakech for US$6 for the 2.5 hour drive. They typically fit 6 passengers into a taxi excluding the driver but you can imagine that it's a bit of a squeeze. If you can find a few others to share the taxi with you, it's US$35 for the whole taxi. The locals pay US$5 for the ride but we couldn't find a driver that would agree to that rate for foreigners.
Have fun.
Regards,
Audrey
