My adult daughter and I are considering the Egypt and Jordan Caravan Tour in Oct 2008. I would appreciate any comments from those who have done this tour. In particular, I would like to hear about sleeping arrangements on MS Melodie. Thanks Anne

Re: MS Melodie
Hi Anne,
I did the Egypt & Jordan Caravan Late Nov-Dec 2007. Had a blast. It was the perfect time to go as the weather was great. We had a tour group of 11 in Egypt and the full tour in Jordan, only because we had Matt West from Imaginative Traveller on our tour.
If you want to do Abul Simbal it's an optional excursion, but I highly recommend it. Also Petra by Night is worth going to, if you get the option.
Sleeping arrangements aboard the MS Melodie are two a room, so I would assume it would be you and your daughter sharing a room. The cabin's are pretty small, enough to move around in but not overly large.
I went on my free day in Cairo to Saqura and Dashur to see the Step & The Red Pyramid, which was well worth the visit. Arrange for a driver to take you there, negotiate the price first for the day. It cost four of us $120 Egyptian for a day and he stayed with us and drove us from each place.

Hi
The cabins on the Melodie are really nice and don't really feel that small. The bathroom is quite cosy however. I went on Jewels of Egypt with a friend (on the picture below!) so can't really comment on the tour.
I have added some links to pictures I took of the cabin so you can see for yourself. One highlight is the crew folding the towels into amusing shapes such as the swans I have included here.

Re: MS Melodie
Are there multiple tours at once on the Melodie?
Re: MS Melodie
My sister and I did the Egypt Jordan Caravan in June 2007 -- the M/V Melodie was the highlight - the crew are funny, kind and interesting -- folding of the towels into swans, monkeys, etc. was something to look forward to at the end of every day -- the rooms are kept very clean and fresh towels daily -- the food is buffet style and fresh daily -- no food complaints; travel on the M/V Melodie as you float down the Nile is an experience you will NEVER forget. Enjoy each moment, the cave dwellings by the river, the small villages, the children playing at the water's edge, water buffalo, the sunset on the sand dunes as it sets over the Nile and the dress up night -- ENJOY-- especially in Aswan as the Tombs of the Nobles are right across the river from the Melodie. Would do this again!
Re: MS Melodie
Thanks for that info everyone. My husband and I are booked for the Jewels of Egypt, leaving on the 6th April. It was nice to hear the good reviews of the Melodie, and particularly enjoyed looking through your photos Lyn.
Re: MS Melodie
Glad you enjoyed the pictures. I hope you have a great trip.
To answer the earlier question - yes there are sometimes more than one group on the boat at once. It doesn't feel full though as there are loads of cabins and space to spread out. It's also nice to meet the other people (although your own group is obviously the best!)
Watch out for the pirates!! (Won't explain any further as I don't want to spoinl it)

Re: MS Melodie
Hi there.
I was on the Jewwls of Egypt Trip on September last year. The Melodie was a lovely ship. The Staff were fun and friendly. The rooms were nice and clean.
There were 2 other Imtrav groups on the boat at the same time as ourselves. But that only made the Travelling experience more enjoyable. And out of a group of 14 on my tour there were 8 people there who were travelling alone.
But as for Sinai climb, I would reccommend a nice warm Jumper or fleece as it gets cold at the summit before the sun comes up. and maybe bring a few snacks with you to eat on the way up to keep your energy levels high.
But it was wonderful trip and very rewarding.
