My husband and I are booking either the Jewels of Egypt, or the Nile Valley and Red Sea for early next spring. This may seem like an odd question but I was wondering how the beds are on the Melodie. My husband needs a firm bed due to back problems and seven nights on a soft, lumpy matress would not be fun! Also if anyone could give me info on how good the snorkelling is on the Red Sea, it may make it easier for me to decide on which tour we want to do. I do love great snorkelling! Thanks, Susan ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

Re: Nile Cruise
Can't comment on the Melodie but I recently did some diving/snorkelling in Dahab.
I guess it would depend upon the site but you can see a lot of good things just snorkelling.
Re: Nile Cruise
Hello Susan,
I too, am unable to comment on Melodie as I haven't yet enjoyed a cruise onboard.....yet.
Snorkelling in Dahab was an amazing experience. Our group swam in the Red Sea on Xmas day 2003! Even though I was unwell & the day was rather cool....& I had never snorkelled before, it was still a wonderful experience. The colours of the fish were beautiful & the sheer pleasure of the water was a delight to a weary, unwell traveller....me!!
we all enjoyed a delish meal afterwards beneath the beach shelters. We just sat back & relaxed... it was almost like we had stepped into paradise.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday, wish I could be there to enjoy it with you. All the best...Debbie.
Re: Nile Cruise
Hi all,
I've just returned from the Jewels of Egypt and spent several wonderful days on MS Melodie and also snorkelled in the magical Red Sea at Dahab.
I found my mattress very comfortable, and I like a firm bed. The pillow was a bit flat, not the shaped one Im used to, but it really didnt matter, and Im sure they'd have given me a 2nd if Id asked - they were happy to help wherever possible. The rooms are twin share, don't know if there were any cabins with double beds but I dont think so. I don't know how others found their beds, I didnt hear any comments on that topic - and beleive me we chatted a LOT.
We went to Dahab for snorkelling for the afternoon and it was brilliant. Very easy, lots of others around of various skill level, no stress, no pressure, lots of divers learning or going down, and lots of fun. Some of our group didnt swim at all, and that was OK too.
Debbie sounds like your Xmas 2003 was outta this world - and I'd have to agree with all of your comments !
regards - Sue
Re: Nile Cruise
I've just returned from the Jewels of Egypt too!
There are a few cabins with Double beds up the front of the Melodie, I didn't use one but the beds seemed pretty firm.
The Melodie crew are extremely helpful, but if the soft pillows are likely to be an issue you could always take your own. My snuggle cushion travelled with me the entire trip - very useful for the bus rides.

Re: Nile Cruise
The Melodie staff will help you out & the beds are firm.
The snorkelling in Hurghada & Dahab is very good. Dahab is more accessible as it's all off the shore, the best snorkelling in Hurghada is off boats.
You will love it.
Re: Nile Cruise
Hi sue, i have also been back from jewels, the melodie was fantastic the crew great you will love it and wont want to get off.

Re: Nile Cruise
Hi Susan, like everyone says, the beds on Melodie are just fine and the staff on board are fantastic - whatever you decide you WILL have a great time. We've been fortunate enough to do the Nile Valley & Red Sea twice - yes
, abit strange you might think, but we loved it so much and there was so much to see and do, it was an easy decision. We are hoping to go back again sometime soon and now the decision has been made even more difficult! The Nile Valley tour now has Abydos included and although I've never been there it's definately on my list of "must sees".
Have a wonderful trip!!
All the best,
Terry
Re: Nile Cruise
Hi there
I have just returned from nile valley red sea over xmas and had a fantastic time. The Melodie was wonderful. the staff are so friendly and being a small boat makes it so much more pleasant that the big casino style boats. As far as the bed are concerened they were far better than most of the hotels we stayed at! My mum also has a bad back and she had no probs with the beds!
