Woohoo!!! I'm booked (deposit in the next day or two).
Questions
When my FlightCentre consultant rang ImTrav in Sydney to book I was asked if I wanted the single supplement, but there seemed to be confusion about where I might actually get the single? (They said no guarantee of single on the Melodie.) If I pay the single supplement, will it give me:
a single room for the 1 night hotel
and/or
a single room for the 2 nights sleeper train
and/or
a single room for the 4 nights Melodie cruise?
I also want to do every optional extra imaginable
*Definitely* Abu Simbel. Do I need to organise those before I go and pay here in Aus? Or do I organise them with the tour leader on tour? (And pay him with what - LE? US? Visa?) Are there limited seats if I do air vs bus?
Last Q (for now!)
I have a full Tour Day 1 free, then the last Tour day plus another. If I want to organise an excursion to Dashur and Saqqqara for one of those days, could I post that request here and have ImTrav organise a safe nice driver with a reliable vehicle to spend the day with me? How would I pay for that? In advance faxing you CC? Or when I arrive? (again, LE? US? Visa?)
Thankyou SO much in advance!

Hi,
I went on Jewels last year. I can't answer many of your questions but optional trips were generally paid at the time in Egyptian pounds.
I don't know about your trip but on ours there was no single available on the sleeper train but there was on the Melodie and in hotels.
You must always do every optional extra
Hopefully one of the wonderful people who have all the answers will be along soon.
Have a great trip.

Hello Megan,
I can't comment on the single supps as it would only be a guess!!
But I agree with Lyn, the optional extras & local payment would be paid with LE (Egyptian pounds). Has happened that way on all my tours in Egypt, so unless it's been changed since my last tour, then I think this will remain correct????? I hope Im not giving you bad info!!
I am so excited for you!! I know you will have a wonderful time!! All the best............Debbie

Thanks Lyn and Debbie for your wonderful replies!
ImTrav:
I have to pay my deposit tomorrow at which time ImTrav Sydney is supposed to tell FlightCentre if my request for the single supplement has been confirmed/approved/whatever.
Hopefully at that time ImTrav Sydney will know exactly what my single supplement payment will give me single accommodation for, but I was hoping you could give me a heads up.
In places on the ImTrav web site, it says single supplements do not apply to boats and trains. ImTrav Sydney thought it would apply to the hotel and train. I can't imagine I am being asked to pay AUD$140 single supplement for one night in a Cairo hotel which is only costing me AUD$42 per night for a single with breakfast anyway! Could you please advise?
I will wait until on tour to make arrangements for my free days after the tour ends, in case I find fellow travellers wanting to share trips and costs. But I would like to arrange in advance for a driver (English speaking ideally!) and car/taxi/whatever for my full free Tour Day 1 to visit Dashur and Saqqara. Should I wait till it's closer to my arrival to ask for that in this forum? (And I guess I would just pay the driver on the day then?)
Thankyou!!!
Megan
Re: Nile Safari Dept 18 Nov 07
i guess by now your decision on The supplement will be made. I don't bother with the SS but you may be different.Remembering my Nile safari trip, it will only be o the train that you will have to share. If your free time in Cairo is on return, catch a taxi from the hotel with other tour members. You won't need a guide. I'd be curious if anyone has flown from aswan to AS. Everyone seems to bus it. If you can afford it, investigate the ballon flight over the Valley of the Kings. If I had my time over again, I'd do it. Its early morning so should fit in. ( I wasn't aware of it at the time. In turkey i took the ballon flight at Goreme/Cappodocia and it was brilliant

Hello Wayne,
I have flown to Abu Simbel. This was back in March'99, at that time the road to Abu Simbel was closed to Westerners.
I feel I would prefer to fly than bus it. Its a long trip, the only plus to the bus trip is the amazing desert scenes.
However I did enjoy seeing just how big Lake Nasser is from the air!! It's enormous!!!
All the best.........Debbie
Re: Nile Safari Dept 18 Nov 07
Hi Megan, sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
On this particular tour the single supp does include the train, and if there is a single cabin available on the boat we would endeavour to give this to you but it cannot be guaranteed.
As for the arrangements for the first day of the tour, i would recommend that you get in touch with Imtrav Sydney through your Flight Centre consultant and see what they can arrange for you as they might be able to sort something before you get there.
I hope this helps,
Nathan ImtravUK
