Hi! Anyone out there going on the Nile & Sinai tour departing Dec 16? I've decided to take this trip by myself after a friend who was supposed to go with me chickened out. All my friends think I'm crazy to be pushing through, but Egypt is my dream trip of all time, and Christmas season is the only time I can take a long leave from work. It's now or never! I am sacrificing so much for this trip--being away from family for the holidays, enduring a close to 24-hour journey by plane (on economy!), plus of course the many risks the events of Sep 11 bring. If anyone out there has advice on how to enjoy a (safe) trip to Egypt by yourself, I'm all ears!

Hi Venus,
The main thing to enjoy a trip in Egypt is NOT TO WORRY TOO MUCH!! Egypt is a wonderful country to travel through, and the Egyptians are friendly and hospital. It is also safe, most Egyptians depend on tourism and they don't want to throw that away. The only thing bugging you there will be the people trying to sell you something.
A female friend of mine did a trip through Egypt two weeks ago (although not with Imtrav) and had no trouble whatsoever, and she enjoyed it very much. Also I know and trust the Imaginative Traveller company, and they will never put their guests in any jeopardy on a tour. You can really rely on them!
A general tip about travelling in Egypt: dress respectfully, especially if you want to venture out on your own (which is NOT a problem!). Keep your legs and shoulders covered (bare arms are OK, loose T-shirts also), and the local people will treat you with respect. But do take shorts with you, because you can wear them in hotels and when on excursions with the group. In general you tour leader will advise you on what to wear and what it safe to do and what is not.
So you're not crazy wanting to do this trip! Your friends are wrong, the people I know and also a lot of people on this message board who went to Egypt will tell you the same. I wished I had the chance to go there again...
Enjoy!
