We're booked on the Nile Valley and Red Sea tour (30th October 2000), followed by 2 extra excursions 2 Faiyoum and Alexandria.
As the date draws near we're feeling slightly nervous regarding the current political climate.
We've checked the foreign office website for info. The Egypt advice page has been updated on 15th October. http://www.fco.gov.uk/travel/countryadvice.asp?EG
This tells you to avoid crowds and demonstrations. (Is it possible to avoid crowds in Cairo?)
Is there anywhere else we can look for advice, or does anybody have any advice/reassurances ?
Edwin Robson.

Re: Nile Valley and Red Sea - political climate in Egypt?
Hi, my husband and I are booked on the Nile Safari on October 29 and have the same concerns. I am from Canada and have phoned the Canadian Foreign Affairs and they clearly stated that there are no warnings in effect for Egypt, other than to stay away from crowded areas incase of a protest. We would like some sort of reasurrance as well!! I'm sure this is not possible as one probably cannot predict what could happen. I'm sure if we are in any danger that the staff of Imaginative Traveller will do their best to give us ample warning. What hotel are you staying in and what day are you arriving?

I'm sure they will, but does anybody have any information/advice we can check other than the Foreign Office websites
Re: Nile Valley and Red Sea - political climate in Egypt?
Hi Edwin & Tracy,
Perhaps I should begin by assuring you that our uppermost concern when considering whether or not to run trips to a country is the safety of our travellers and our own staff.
At no time would we knowingly send people into an area where we believed that they would be in any danger.
We have temporarily suspended our tours in Israel due to the current violence that is taking place in various parts of the country.
(Our current policy on Israel is posted elsewhere on this forum)
We have no plans to cancel or suspend any tour in Egypt. There is no indication that this violence will be repeated in Egypt.
We have our own team on the ground in Egypt and are able to get first hand information about the situation there.
Like you we also check all the Foreign Office Travel Advisories to ensure that we don't go somewhere they tell us not to go.
On top of that we regularly review a wide variety of news sources on the region to try and get more background information about current situations.
We believe Egypt is safe right now.
Cheers
Martin
