Is anyone out there going on the Nile Valley and Red Sea trip in mid-April please? I wondered if any of the group was travelling out early before the tour officially starts ?

Are you going on the 9 April? I'm going then, but won't be arriving early.

Hi Kirsten.

Not sure if you might be too tired, but did you fancy going over to see saqqara and other pyramids that way on the Saturday with Sam and I? We were going to rent a car and driver for most of the day, since these sites are not covered in the tour. Better to get it sorted out early before we go though.

I was going to do it thru IT. There was meant to be someone in the tour arriving Friday morning I was told, but have not been able to track them down.

Derek.

Hi!

Just to let you know about doing Saqqara. I recently went on a IT tour and it was great. If you do Saqqara, go and see Dashur (bent and red pyramid) and Memphis at the same time. This will take the good part of the day. If you hire a taxi, it will probably cost around 100 - 140 LE (I think) and will also depend on how many people there are with you.

Also, especially at Saqqara, you will find a lot of people being "guides". Straight away tell them you aren't interested, and tell them you have a book to read from or something similar... they will still push you to tell you facts. Whether or not they are true, i'm not too sure! But do take a book. I had the lonely planet and the National Geographic one. The National Geographic book is really good for these tours, b'c it goes more into the places, rather than talk about accom - which you wont need!

Hope this helps... Sorry if I rambled!

have a great trip.

Nicky

Hi Nicky
I followed the link and the photos are just great but much better is your day to day diary it was great reading. I loved this portion of your diary

"We leave Siwa before sunrise the next day and head back up to the coast. We stop off again and go the War museum before going onto the Alexandria. We have a great hotel right on the coast, and for the first time in about 3 weeks, Aidan and I do nothing for about 2 hours.... And it was boring!"

Thanks for the link it was well worth a visit.
