Your Guide to Jordan

We had a great guide hired for the Jordan portion of our trip by ImTrav - Naim Abu Eid. I know he does "Nomadic Jordan" as well as the trip we were on which was "Egypt & Jordan Caravan".

He is a bit of a mountain goat (you will find yourself climbing up to look down and the views from above are much more spectacular) but very knowledgeable and if you get him you will have lots of fun, information and a great tour.

Good luck and have a great time whomever your Jordan guide is!

Hi Jerry,

Not long until your tour begins!

At the moment there are 11 of you booked on for this departure date. Lets hope others use the forum and contact you before you go.

Have an amazing time.

Nomadic Jordan

Hi there,

Yes, we are going to be joining you in Amman very shortly! We've not packed or sorted out any clothes or money yet, so hopefully we'll sort outselves out in the next 2-3 weeks! Trying to find our sleeping bags this weekend!

Looking forwards to it though!

Looking forward to it to. Spoken to a few people who have lived or travelled there quite extensively, and they all say it looks like a good trip.

....just wondered if anyone had received any further info on what we will be carrying on the trek. Maybe I'm missing it in the documents but I can't see any info - day or main packs and what we need to carry, sleeping bags required, if day packs do our main packs meet us along the way for instance.

cheers
Jerry

Hi there,

You are asking the same questions as we thought of last week! The answers we had back from Imaginative Traveller are : Yes, you do need a sleeping bag &/or liner(very light weight, thin one) as we maybe in tents of up to 6 people, or if it is really hot, everyone just sleeps out in the open under a large sheet(!!???!). Also, during the trekking days, you are required to have a daypack with you, but all your other belongings (including your sleeping bag) are taken on a jeep to the next site so will be there when we arrive.

Hope that helps in the packing!

Ah ha, thanks Dawn, that sounds like a plan. Think I'm going to sew a couple of sheets up and make do with that. My 3 season bag might be a bit too much, although I'm sure it would be a great personal sauna.

- Imtrav, if you're listening, this info could go in the trip info ?

It isn't long to go now.

Hi

I agree, maybe a little more could be written about the trekking section of this trip, ie what to take and how it is organised etc. Think we've sorted it now though! Would like to know what terrain we would be walking, sand dunes, hills, rocky sections etc, to see which days are going to be the most difficult! The Inca Trail is a lot easier to prepare for as there are many books & info about the routes etc. Hope we are fit enough!

Where are you travelling from? The UK or?

We did the Inca trail last year and it was great. This one is classed as easier so hopefully we'll make it - i wasn't fit then and I'm definitely no fitter now.
I'm going to take poles though as I find they really help my back and knees. We bought the cheapest of the cheap off the internet for the Inca trail and they were fine so might as well pack them for this.

We're travelling from Aberdeen to London and spending a couple of days with friends in London on the way back. Flying out of London to Amman with BMI on the Sunday at 14.25

I planned to go to Jordan years ago and never got round to it so am well looking forward to it.

cheers

We'll see you there! I am also taking a trekking pole as it is easier the further into the trek I get, as fitness is not my strong point - as the inca trail made me realise, especially the day after dead womans pass! Hoping this is going to be a lot easier!

We are flying out on the Saturday evening, so should be in Amman around 5am on the Sunday! Seemed like a good idea at the time!

Hoping to go out to Jerash as well once we arrive back in Amman for the spare day before the flights home!

Lots to see and do see, quite excited now!

See you soon

Hi Keith,

Looking forward to it now for sure - better get on and do some packing I suppose....

We just got some sleeping bag liners and are hoping they're up to the job.
We also booked the airport transfer to make life easy so we might see you there.
My hand luggage may well be a medium blue & black rucsac that looks a bit like a folding shell - you'll know what I mean if you see it.

...thanks Kate, almost time for the off.

cheers

Sunday

Hi there,

Really good to hear from another person on the trip! Can't wait now!
We are flying out late on Saturday night and will arrive in Amman around 5:30am on Sunday morning(!!)- not ideal! I am unsure what time we'll get into the hotel rooms etc, but anytime to meet up on Sunday would be good once the baggage has been stored! Lunch or dinner somewhere would be good- I am sure there will be somewhere good to eat locally! We'll ask at the hotel where you maybe depending on time of day,

See you on Sunday - and everyone else on Monday!

Dana Nature Reserve - Start of Your Trek

If you look on the website for Dana, you will see articles written by trekkers and read about the birds and animals that you could expect to see or hear.

I know for a fact, there are snakes and wolves, and you will probably have a campfire burning all night if the wolves are in your area.

The stars are brillant as there are no city lights and the colours of the desert change as the sun rises and falls.

Petra

Petra viewed from the hilltops rather than walking through on the ground gets you closer to the caves that you can go into and view the vast temple complex, churches and tombs. A whole day at Petra cannot do this place justice. It is a fantastic place and worthy of the UNESCO site distinction.

Have a great trek.
