I'm thinking of booking the Imperial Cities and High Atlas tour this September. I believe Ramadan is in September this year. Does this effect the trip at all? In particular, the trekking portion? Don't think I can trek for 5 hours a day without eating/drinking! What about the non-trekking portion - are there restaurants/markets to eat in during the day?
Also, I would love to hear from anyone who has done this trip as to what they thought of it.

Re: Ramadan in Morocco
I did the Deserts and Kasbahs tour during Ramadan two years ago, and can say there is no reason to avoid going at that time. While there were a couple of minor challenges finding restaurants in Casablanca at the beginning and the end of the tour, for the most part there was no impact on any part of the tour. We remained respectful of their fasting, trying not to openly eat or drink in front of people during the day, but on a couple of occasions we were offered samples of sweets or freshly picked dates to try on the spot, so the locals had less reservation on our behalf. As for alcohol, while I don't drink, I can say that my travelling companions had no trouble finding what they wanted by asking around (although the second group paralleling our trip were less successful...you just have to be resourceful).

Hi Shanne
I am glad that you are interested in the Imperial Cities & High Atlas tour. This is a fantastic tour and always receives great feedback. Yes, Ramadan is in September this year and I understand your concerns about booking a tour during this time.
Many people find visiting Morocco during Ramadan is very enlightening - it will provide a unique experience and be very atmospheric. You need have no concerns about the trekking conditions as you will be catered for as normal. Your tour leader will always be able to recommend restaurants & shops that you can purchase food during the tour when you are not on the trek.
The only consideration which may not appeal to you is that it may be difficult to purchase alcohol during Ramadan. If this is a major factor, you may prefer to postpone your trip until the beginning of October.
Please let me know if you have any further questions. My telephone number is 01473 667337.
Kind regards
