We are going on the Sailtrek and Sinai tour starting on the 9th of September.
We have a couple of questions:
- what is advisable for the felucca trip : a sleeping bag or a sheet?
- we are hearing different stories about getting our visa: the travel agency recommends us to get our visa at arrival in Cairo, but the pre-departure booklet contradicts this. Is there anyone who can tells us if one doesn't loose to much time at the airport?

Re: Sailtrek and Sinai
Hi Peter,
The weather in Egypt remains hot by day and warm by night through to late October. But on the Nile at night the wind can make it feel much cooler than that of temp on land towards the end of summer. You would be best to bring a light sleeping bag.
VISA: Our pre departure booked will remain advising clients to obtain their visa before arrival to any destination we work in.
However in Cairo you can obtain a visa on arrival without hassle. Once you disembark the plane you arrive at the immigration desks, to the left of these desks are seven banks for foreign exchange, these banks also sell visas (two stamps that you stick into a page on your passport) Very simple process. The cost is 15 sterling or $25 approx. But please double check with your embassy that you can avail of this facilicty as it is open to most nationalities but not all.
Have a great trip!
Cheers
Marty
