Not sure I'd bother carrying a fake mobile phone in case I got mugged, but that's just me. Definitely agree with splitting your money up so you don't ever have to dive into your money belt in public.
Top tip - every time you check into a new hotel, pick up an address card from the reception. That way you've got something to show a taxi driver when you can't remember the name of the hotel and there are 300 to choose from.
