Solo on cruise

I am interested in the Nile Valley and Red Sea trip. I haven't travelled with Imaginative Traveller before and was wondering about the situation with single travellers on the cruise ship. Is it possible to have a single cabin? I snore and am very self-conscious when sharing a room - I believe my poor room buddy gets no sleep? Can anyone fill me in?

Re: Solo on cruise

I was told the answer to that is no. Because with ImTrav the single supplement only applies to hotel rooms not cruise accommodations or overnight train accommodations.

However, when we were in China on a Yangtze cruise the boat was only half full. On the first day crew members came to our cabins trying to get us to upgrade to the suites or to split up to single cabins for a "modest charge" of course.

I'm not sure how ImTrav's boat works but I can't imagine them not taking your money to do this if the boat is less than full.

Re: Solo on cruise

I did Nile Safari in Nov 07 and paid the single supplement. I booked through Flight Centre in Brisbane, and when it came time to pay, the rep in Sydney still couldn't say what nights I would get guaranteed single accom in, as the web site contradicts itself.

In the end, my single supplement payment of AUS$140 got me single accom every night of the tour (1 x hotel in Cairo; 2 x overnight train; 4 x Melodie cruise boat).

I don't know if any of those are conditional on room availability which is why I was nervous about paying for a AUS$140 single supp when I might only get one hotel night as a single.

But it all worked out! You'll have a ball!

Re: Solo on cruise

Dear IT Traveller,

Hey,I snore too. Be a good travel buddy and (1) buy ear plugs for your roommate -- remember, if they can't match you -- you are alone in the room -- the M/V Melodie is a great ship having been on it in June 2007. If the ear plugs don't work (too big, not enough, etc.) then sleep on your side with a pillow at your back so you can't roll over and snore --

Have fun, don't worry, be happy -- the cruise is a lifetime experience and remember others snore too!

Take care,

Hi

Single cabins on the Melodie are subject to availability but will always be offered when available.
