Visa before or after

We're applying for our entry visas for Egypt, and finding that it's going to cost a bit more than what I thought I had heard someone say they cost when you get to Egypt. If I apply before I go, it's $26 CAD by Certified Cheque (which will cost me another $8 from the bank), then we have to provide a passport photo...which is another $9.00...and we have to send it in a returnable prepaid envelope by Fedex...and I'm sure that costs a bit too. So at least $43 each (not including Fedex) to get the Visas in advance.

I thought I read in the forums a few months ago that when you get the visa in the airport it's much cheaper. Does anyone suggest I wait? I thought it would be much easier and less stressful to get the visas in advance, but if i'm going to save a lot I think I might wait...

Also does anyone know how to search the forums now? And how to email other forum people? I tried to contact someone directly but because the little icon is gone i'm not sure how to find them!

Hello Shazzy

Thank you for your question.

The good news it that the visa office will be open after midnight so you should be able to get your visa on arrival, but please note we do recommend to get the visa in advance just in case the regulations change locally.

Have a good trip!

I would suggest just getting

I would suggest just getting your visas there. That's what I did.

It's insanely easy to get them and a whole lot cheaper. Just US$15, not Egyptian Pounds.

The warning that "these regulations may change at any time" is most likely something the legal department tells ImTrav reps to point out. I really can't see the Egyptian Government preventing Western Tourists from spending their money there :P

Egypt visas

Hi, Im booked to go on the the felucca sail trip end of september and i'll probably get my visa on arrival. I went to Sharm el Sheik about four years ago and there was no problem getting a visa on arrival then. I havent booked my flight yet as they seem rather expensive. (£350 return BMI). Any ideas on anything a bit cheaper?.(Not Alitalia KLM as their arrival times are terrible!!) Does anyone think they might get cheaper nearer departure date? Thanks

Hi Billuk,

I work at a travel agency myself.

I would never ever recommend you to wait very long with booking your flight.
With fligths, there are no such things as last-minutes or special offers.

Fewer seats in the plane means more expensive tickets. The price depends on availability, not on how long before departure you book. So I would always recommend to book as early as possible when there is enough availability in the plane.

What's your departure airport? I'm flying from Amsterdam, so yes, I know that KLM does have terrible times. But I'll just have to deal with it I'm afraid, haha.

Egyptian Visa's

Hi,

In our country dossier for Egypt it states....

"It is possible to obtain an Egyptian single entry visa on arrival at Cairo Airport. The current charge for this is US$15 payable in US$, GBP or Euro cash only. However, as these regulations may change at any time without prior notice, the Egyptian Authorities recommend you obtain your visa in advance"

Some people on our tours obtain their visa's in advance and some wait to get them on arrival. It really is up to you to do which ever you prefer. If you are being met at the airport then the representative meeting you will allow the extra time that it takes to get the visa at the airport.

hope this helps

Hello Kozy, I usually try to

Hello Kozy,

I usually try to arrange my visa's before I travel. But I do know that it is a relatively easy procedure to get a visa upon arrival in Egypt.

If you are being met at the airport by a Rep, they should be able to point you in the right direction for where you need to buy the stamps & then to the office for the visa. You will need passport photo's, so ensure you have these handy! You need to pay for the stamps etc in Egyptian pounds, so you will need to have some local cash on you or go to the ATM upon arrival.

Hope you have a great time...........Debbie
