I am going on the 8th August Western Desert trip too, and really looking forward to it (especially with the usual UK "summer" weather we're having at the moment).

I am not sure about currency yet - my parents went to Egypt about a month ago and said they had trouble changing US$ travellers cheques, but I don't know how hard they tried! Maybe someone from ImTrav can give us advice?
I am travelling on my own - one of the reasons I was recommended ImTrav by a friend - great tours, good people and no single supplements!

I saw some pictures of the Indiana Hotel on the Net and it seem very nice...but...still no sign of a bar.

The Indiana hotel serves Egyptian Beer in the lobby by the coffee shop and upstairs by the pool (on the second floor) and on the rooftop restaurant. Try the "Special" stella, it's a more tasty darker beer than the regular stella. I think it's only served at the rooftop restaurant. Still very difficult to get beer cold enough! I know as I just finished a tour last month! Hope you find some cold ones! And have a great time..we did.

Just had my jabs this morning for the trip. Tetanus, typhoid, diptheria and hepatitis A all in one arm, plus a polio booster. Better safe than sorry though!!

Hello Clive! So ready for the great adventure ? I had all my shots last summer for my trip in Peru.
Next week I will get my visa from the Egyptian Embassy in Ottawa.
I was trying to get some Egyptian Pounds from my bank, but they told me its impossible to get them because Egypt do not let the pounds out of the country and they have very strict control over their currency.
I saw some pictures of the Indiana Hotel...it seem very nice.
Only 1 month to go!

you can easily get egyptian pounds before you go. i got mine from american express.
everything's sooo cheap over there.
but just a word of advice, drink lots of water!!!! i got dehydrated when i was there, and it'll be even hotter when you are going so please don't end up like me!
