Hi,
I'm going on the Aug14th Nubian Sailtrek tour and was wondering what to bring. I'm planning to use my backpack for this tour, and I want to keep my luggage to a minimum amount. How many changes of clothes should I bring? Do I get a chance to wash my clothes during the trip? If so, is there anything I should bring?
Also, I want to know how much money I should bring. I was thinking maybe about $200 excluding the local payment. Is it enough? Too much? I don't have any ATM card or credit card so I'm planning to bring just cash and travelers checks. How should I split the money?
I'm sorry for asking too much questions, but I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Re: What to bring on Nubian Sailtrek
Hello:
I went on Nubian Sailtrek in April. It's a fantastic trip--you should be very excited!
I didn't attempt to wash clothes while on the trip, but I believe the hotels and/or your tour leader can help you get laundry done if that's what you want to do. Also, you could always bring some Woolite or detergent with you and do your washing in the sink. Just bring a hanger or something to put it on while it drips dry.
Because it's so hot, I would bring at least one outfit for every day of the trip. I brought one outfit per day plus a couple of extra options (something for the cold weather at night, a dressier outfit for dinner out), and was still able to fit everything into a medium-size duffel bag on wheels. On our trip, people's luggage varied from the very light to the big and enormous, but nobody seemed burdened, no matter what they brought. There are a couple of times where you will leave your main bag at the hotel or bus and be living out of a daypack.
As for money, I myself spent more than $200, (probably more like $450) but I guess you might be able to get by on that amount if you really had to. However, I don't recommend it. Keep in mind that on adventure trips such as Nubian Sailtrek, the entrance fees are not included, so you have to budget for that.
Too bad you don't have an ATM card, as that is always the best way to handle money while travelling. I didn't see anyone in our group using travellers' checks, so I don't know how that would go, but I got the impression that Egypt isn't big on them. Same with credit cards.
Hope this helps. If you have any more questions about the tour, you can write me at hslowe at gmail dot com. Also, I have pictures from my trip online, if you're interested:
