Hi everyone
I am planning on doing a tour of Egypt at the end of this year. I want to do a 15 or 16 day tour and am trying to decide between the Western Desert Oases and the Felucca Journey. Has anyone been on one of these and does anyone know if the Desert Oases are more interesting than spending time at Hurghada on the Red Sea Coast.
Cheers
Katie

Re: Which tour
Hi Katie,
That is a difficult question - how long is a piece of string !
I personally would recommend the Western Desert as this gives you the chance to see a side of life in Egypt that very few foreigners see. The desert scenery in this region is absolutely stunning - there are few places that I have been to which can rival the white desert between Bahariya and Farafra for amazing, otherworldly scenery. And you get to explore in 4x4 jeeps !
It is also amazing to drive through mile after mile of barren desert landscape and then arrive at a lush green oasis in the middle of it all, with beautiful palm groves and donkeys trotting around the place.
Having said all this, the snorkelling in Hurghada is also wonderful - there is a great variety of fish life to see and two days on the beach is certainly a lovely way to finish off the trip.
So - it is difficult to know which you would prefer, but if I had to chose, I would recommend the Western Desert.
Regards,
