Hi, I am going to Egypt in October this year, doing the Alexandria and Siwa Oasis as well as the Jewels of Egypt tour.
I am currently trying to work out what types of clothing to take. According to the guides, I am to dress conservatively. Which is totally unlike me!
Do I need to wear long pants and long shirt all the time or can I get away with 3/4 pants some days? Also, what style of tops (singlets, t-shirts or 3/4 length)?
If anyone has travelled during this time, could you please advise what you took?
Thanks!

Re: Womens Clothing for Egypt
Hi K-Aust,
Thanks for your questions.
It's true that you need to dress somewhat conservatively but Egypt is fairly relaxed compared to some countries in the Middle East and as long as you cover the tops of your arms and your legs down to your knees then you should be fine.
Naturally you will need to pack for warm weather so shorts and T-shirts, particularly cotton clothes, are the order of the day normally. 3/4 length clothes are not a problem.
Whilst at the coast or onboard our boat there are no real restrictions on what you can wear and a bikini top with a sarong or similar is a popular option.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Brendan
Re: Womens Clothing for Egypt
Hello K-Aust,
As a general rule of thumb for travelling in Egypt......no bare knees or shoulders, no plunging necklines. Loose tshirts are fine as are 3/4 length slacks.
As Brendan said on the Red Sea coast....anything goes!! You are quite ok to wear your bikini there & whilst onboard Melodie, although I think I have only ever seen sarongs & shorts etc onboard.
I havent travelled in Egypt in the month of October, only x2 in March x2 November & Jan & Dec.
It can be quite cool at times in November, so perhaps I would pack a windproof warm jacket of some sort. Or maybe someone who has travelled in October could advise us here?
You're gonna love the Jewels of Egypt tour, I certainly did anyway!!!
Remember to pack your sense of humour & an open heart & mind. have a wonderful time...........Debbie.
Re: Womens Clothing for Egypt
Hi K-Aust,
I did the Jewels of Egypt in October last year and I wore knee length shorts & 3/4 cotton shirts.
We saw many tourists running around in mini skirts, bikini tops & high heels through the temples & such and it felt very disrespectful to Egypt's culture...
It is hot in October, but depending on what sort of heat you are used to it should be bareable in those clothes. Being in Brissy it gets rather humid here & I found Egypt to not *feel* as hot as back home - but others found it extremely hot..
If I can help with anything else, just let me know

Re: Womens Clothing for Egypt
The Siwa oasis tour is FANTASTIC!!!!
I generally gadded around Siwa in 3/4 length cargos and a tee. Don't forget your bathers as you get to swim in cleopatra's spring - the water feels so soft there!
Don't forget your aeroguard as the mozies are pretty full on - just make sure it is for sensative skin because you will have to put it on your face and eyelids.
Again, I can't stress enough how fantastic this trip was. The bycling around Siwa was a total highlight - as was seeing the only mummy on public display that is NOT behind glass in the whole country!
Mersa Matrouh was a highlight - as was El Alamain - and we even got to go into Rommels bunker and the war museum on the way back. Oh yeah - Alex rocks - very cosmopolitan.
I am so jealous as I would love to do that trip again.
