I'm thinking about signing up for Florence to Athens in August, which is a good time for me to be away from the office (since everyone else is gone then, too). Is this going to be a terribly hot time to be in Italy and Greece? Is it going to be a really dead time to be there, with a lot of places closed, since this is a popular time for people there to go on vacation, too? Am I going to be able to find airfares anywhere close to reasonable?

Re: Italy (and Greece) in August
Hi Watercat,
Interesting name?
Yep it is going to be hot, but think of the tan!
You are also right in saying that August is a popular time for Meditereanians to holiday, but this must be for a good reason right? I can promise you that if it was a bad time of year to travel we just wouldnt run a departure, its as simple as that! I have no doubt this trip will brilliant all year round...go on, go for it!
