Hi, just in process of choosing our big family holiday and this tour sounds great.(family of 2 adults 3 teenage boys. Has anyone been in the school hols in August? I'm a little concerned about the rainy season! We were orignally thinking of Easter but have more time in summer.

Hi, we've just got back from this trip, it was fantastic!! So much to do and you really get the feel of the real Thailand, not just the touristy parts!! The local tour guides were great too!!! You should totally do it, it's great!!!

Thanks for your reply. We've actually booked now and can't wait! Great to know someone who has been on the trip and enjoyed it so much. My sons now think the rain will be a 'bit of a laugh'. Could you let me know about whether you can leave your main bags in Bangkok whilst travelling 'light' to Chaing Mai etc?, would you have to take all your luggage on the train trips? Any advice on luggage appreciated as we are a a family of 5 and need to keep it minimal.
Cheers
Ann

My son and I did this trip last year - late July/into August. Weather was NOT a problem! You should do it - it was amazing. When it did rain, it was very heavy for a short period of time. There were days when it was cloudy and I thought "the view would be better with a blue sky" but that was all.
My son loved it all. In fact, when it rained really hard it was quite exciting as it is very different to the rain in England. Warm & torrential!
You should take (or buy over there) a waterproof poncho to go over you and your bags for when it does rain.
Hope that helps!

Hi,

I travelled to Thailand last summer, about July time.

We didn't experience a lot of problems with regards to the rains but when it did rain it was at about 3 in the afternoon and it would rain for half an hour and then clear up and the sun would be out again.

So if you don't mind working around this then you should be fine.

Hope this helps
