Hello.

It's always a good idea to talk to your GP about such matters especially when children are involved because their bodies react different to that of adults.

There are several anti-malarial products on the market so it's good practice to do some homework as to which one suits you and your family's travel situation. I.e. some require to be taken prior to travelling.

A strong repellent is also a good idea weather this consists of DEET is your choice, however you may prefer a herbal answer.

Hope this has helped.

Hi McShane,

Last July I was lucky enough to do visit Kenya to help get this trip set up.
I went in July and our party consisted of 6 adults and 4 children. Ages ranged from 6 to 72.
Everyone had a terrific time. Perhaps the best part was that everyone was able to set their own pace. If people wanted to skip some of the game drives and lie in bed, they could do that. Those that wanted to be on every game drive could do so.
We had been concerned that the younger children might be bored after a few game drives but they really got into it and became expert game spotters.
At the time we went the wildebeest migration was just beginning so it was fascinating to see the herds get larger by the day. There were also lots of recently born animals for the children to coo over.

Down on the coast we got a very pleasant surprise to discover that 'all inclusive' not only meant 3 meals a day but also free drinks and snacks too (as long as they were locally produced). The food wqas great and the children really loved being able to order food when they wanted it and eat it by the pool instead of having to come to restaurant every meal time.

At the time we were there the weather was not nearly as hot as we had expected. We had to wrap up for the morning game drives but by 9 o'clock the sun was up and it was very warm without being 'too hot'. At the coast the weather was ideal for realxing with most days being sunny with a few rain showers.

Kenya is well known for having a lot of mosquitos but, after spending a fortune on anti-malarial pills - we were very surprised how few we encountered. Even so, I would definitely recommend that anyone travelling to Kenya takes some form of malaria prevention as mosquitos definitely are a problem at some times of the year.

cheers
Martin

Thanks for all the info.
Can you give me an indication of flight costs from London to Nairobi?
