My son and I are travelling to Egypt in October 2004 on the Pharaohs and Fellucas tour - has anybody done this trip with their kids? Has anybody booked this trip? Any tips or recommendations? Anything to avoid? So many questions!

Re: pharaohs and felluccas

Hi M and J,
We did this October 2003 with our 2 children(then 8&10). Its something they will remember for the rest of their lives! There were 2 or 3 families with older teenagers, another family with lower teens & a single mum and her 7 yr old son.The group seemed to work well with all adults (&some of the older girls) keeping an informal eye on the kids. Coach trips tended to be early starts and long, but everyone just went to sleep. Our kids did NOT get any sort of tummy bug! If you want detailed answers, you can (in fact anyone can!) email me at andycarter@hotmail.com
Have fun
Andy

Hi to both of you. We are also joining the October 04 trip. 3 boys 18 14 and 10 . Were from Australia too. Looking forward to the trip. Food is our issue. I have been trying to check out different types of food . Have been told the pizzas are great.

Oh also head gear to cover the ladies hair. Especially a good idea these days. Ceri

Re: pharaohs and felluccas

Hi M and J, sorry to confuse you but we willbe on the 22nd Oct trip too. So looks like our boys will have friends on the trip. [Smile]

As for Ramadan, I got this of a web page.
Ramadan for the Year 2004 (the 9th Month of the Islamic Calendar) will start on Oct 15th and last until November 13th although this doesn't usually affect Tourist Resorts you may find limited services elsewhere, also be aware that at the end of Ramadan, Banks and Shops etc, will close for between 1-2 Days this can also affect Public Transport, etc. although the Tourist Shops usually remain open, you may find that even the Supermarkets will be closed.

Re: pharaohs and felluccas

Its great to hear from a future co-traveller! My son is 6 but pretty grown up and gets along with everyone. So we will be there for Ramadam, I wonder how that will impact on our trip?

I want to go to Deir El Bahri (Hatshepsut's Temple) near the Valley of the Kings too. Its not on the itinerary but has anyone else fitted it into the trip? Looks like the best time to go is the day we got the The Valley of the Kings. But that may be too much in one day. Any suggestions out there?

Does anybody have any idea of how much spending money you should bring?

I'm not sure about the spending money either. Any suggestions would be useful. Forgot to mention earlier that my son is 9 years old - so it looks like there will be heaps of children for him to mix with. Ramadan evening feasts could be fun! (Not sure about how our days will be effected).

Re: pharaohs and felluccas

Hi again, looks like lots of boys. My 3 are 10 14 and 18 , last all family trip I think. They should all have a great time. The 18 year old will probably have head phones on the whole time!! My boys are seasoned travellers so were hoping theyll manage fine. I'm thinking that we ay have to check we have food and drink for mid day. Although children are exempt from fasting I wonder how getting food and drink in the middle of the day will go.

Hadn't thought about hetshiput ( wrong spelling I know) A friend of mine was in Egypt in May. Said that valley of the kings was very hot and tiring. BUt after going all that way we want to see as much as possible so were probably willing to have a serious look at your idea.
