Africa - camping or hotels?

I am thinking about doing one of the South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia/Zimbabwe tours this August. I can't remember the tour codes but there are 2 that start in Capetown and end in Victoria Falls, one adventure style and one traveler style. What is the difference between the two? I am wondering how comfortable the camping is versus the hotels. I have camped a lot in Canada but I imagine it will be a little different in Africa. What are the camp sites like? Do you spend a lot of time there or just go there to sleep? What about the hotels?
