Re: alex and siwa oasis
Hi Snacks
Thanks for your post.
I can definitely recommend the Alexandria and Siwa Oasis trip. You'll be getting off the beaten track and away from most other tourists, especially when you're in Marsa Matrouh and Siwa. Alexandria's a great city - mediterranean, cosmopolitan, but very definitely Egyptian. There's loads of good sights, like the catacombs and Fort Qaitbey, and plenty of good cafes and restaurants, as well as a good Graeco-Roman museum.
Siwa is something else in itself - an amazing and fascinating oasis in one of the most remote parts of Egypt, where the people and customs are quite different to that which you'll find along the Nile. The desert surrounding the town is absolutely spectacular, with bizarre rock formations, and you'll have the chance to explore that by jeep. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Egypt.
You'll find that food and accommodation won't differ greatly from what you'd find in other parts of Egypt - so don't worry!
It will get quite cold in the desert in January at night - take along a thick fleece, and be prepared to put extra layers on at night.
And last of all, be prepared for mosquitoes at Siwa!!
I hope that this helps.
Regards
Jim
