Hi Imaginative Traveller,
I'm booked on the Amazing Costa Rica trip and I was hoping you all could help me out with a couple of details.
I have the names of the hotels we're staying at in San Jose at the start and end of the trip, but can you please tell me where we'll be staying the rest of the nights? My family -- who are not at all happy that I'm going to the jungle in the first place -- wants to know where I'll be, and I'd also appreciate the chance to prepare mentally, too.
Another detail that I'm not too clear on is the situation with luggage. What caught my eye was the advice to bring a backpack rather than luggage on wheels, and I guess I'm curious as to why... My impression is that the bus would basically take us, and the luggage, from the front door of one hotel to the front door of the next and there would be minimal bag carrying (or bag rolling, as the case may be). Please correct me if I have the wrong idea.
I don't mean to be so "detail-oriented," but I've never done this before, so the more I know and am prepared for, the more confidence I'll have going into this. Thanks a lot.
Looking forward to the trip....

Hi
I didn't do this tour but did a similar trip in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama last year and thought I might be able t help a bit.
Apparently the hotels in Costa Rica are notorious for changing bookings - we had to go to a different hotel on one occasion as they had randomly cancelled us - we ended up in a better hotel though. Bearing this in mind any info you get about hotels could change.
To reassure you my family were worried but it was totally safe over there and the rainforest is not anything to worry about. It is just amazing and relaxing.
I took a backpack and was happy but other people took wheeled cases and didn't have a problem.
I will try to put a link on to some pictures if you like.
Have a fabulous holiday - I'm sure you will. If you get the chance to go ziplining then definitely do it!
Lyn
Hello,
My name is Jonathan, and I'll most likely be the tour leader for your trip in Costa Rica. As Lyn said, the hotels in Costa Rica can change, so I cant give you exact names. No worries, they are all very comfortable and clean. About your bag, it really doesn't matter what you bring, backpacks are just eaiser for you to carry around we think. We'll have a bus, and we will be either putting the luggage in the back seat, or on the roof depending on space.
The trip is a good one, and the weather this time of year is quite nice. That being said, it can rain at ANY time in Costa Rica. I look forward to meeting you!
Jonathan
If Jon is your tour leader you are guaranteed to have the most fantastic time :)
Thanks for the info... not that it made my family any less worried. :)
A couple more things I thought I should confirm. Are there cash machines available in the smaller towns, like Monteverde and La Fortuna? Also, in the small towns, are there internet cafes or places where I can check my email?
Third, my Costa Rica guidebook suggests bringing along a mosquito net, but I assume that's only for people who are camping out in the wilderness and it won't be necessary for this trip. Is that a safe assumption?
Thanks again.

Ahh, thanks Lyn.
OK, about the cash machines. Yes, there are ATM's available in every place we will visit, so no worries there. Internet cafe's are virtualy everywhere as well, so you'll be able to check your mail almost at any time. About the mosquito net, you wont need to bring one, the hotels have fans, just turn them on at night and that will keep any random mossies off of you. The hotel windows are all screened, so that keeps most of them out anyways. Its not a big deal at all.
Hope that helps. Anything else just let me know.
Jonathan
