I'm booked in for the Annapurna Sanctuary tour starting the 5th of May. I've been reading a lot of conflicting advice about what gear I should have!

I have the following hiking type shoes  http://www.shoesonline4u.co.uk/hiking-shoes/clarks-boots-incite-mid-gtx-2096508-375226-700485.php

Should these be sufficient? I have them well worn in and would prefer not to have to buy and break in a pair of hiking boots.

The other issue is a sleeping bag. How low do temperatures drop at night at the highest altitudes that are reached in the trek? A lot of the info I'm reading seems to be related to different times of the year (November/March).

Also what are the max temperatures we're likely to be facing during the trek?

Thank you for your post.

Even though May is spring time in Nepal temperatures can still be very low. The weather can be unpredictable so I would still take plenty of breathable layers of clothing, some good quality walking socks and a three season sleeping bag and liner.

The boots look good as they seem to be designed to support your ankles well which is important.

This website should help in terms of what average temperatures to expect:

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.

From what I've heard its pretty easy and cheap to hire a decent sleeping bag in Kathmandu? Is that true? I might just do that instead of bulking up my luggage.

Hello again,

You can hire or buy almost anything in Kathmandu!

If you wanted the tour leader to arrange hiring of a sleeping bag it would cost approximately 75 Nepalese Rupees per trekking day and you could also hire a down jacket for 60 Nepalese Rupees a day.

I hope this helps.

Thanks alexb!

Less than a euro a day sounds a lot beeter than lugging it with me! I think I'll go with that!

So when I meet the tour leader on the first day can I ask him/her to arrange it then? I don't need to give any prior notice?

Hi,

No problem. No need to pre-arrange. Just let the tour leader know when you meet him on day 1 and he should be able to organise this for you.

All the best.
