Re: ATM's in vietnam
Hi, when I was there 3 years ago there were a few in the major cities, mainly the Aussie banks like ANZ(?). It won't be that easy to get cash, but probably more straightforward than swapping travelers cheques. You may have problems away from Hanoi, HCMC and the other major centres however. Dollars are the main currency of choice and acceptable alsomost everywhere, with Dong used for bottles and water, rickshaws etc. Keep you reciept when changing currency so you can change it back.
Re: ATM's in vietnam
Hello Alicies. I was in Vietnam in Feb this year. I also relied on ATM's for my money, and was able to find an ATM very easily whatever city we were in. They really are everywhere.
It is actually very fun. Remember that the dong is something like 15000 Dong to the US$1. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to an ATM and take out 4 Million Dong.
It is also handy to have some US cash, especially in the $1 - $10 range. It can be handy when barganing in the markets.
I am very jealous, I loved both Vietnam and Cambodia - I will definately be returning in the future. Have a wonderful trip.
