I am informed that the underground/metro train in Cairo reserves the first carriage for women only. Since I plan to go to Egypt with my girlfriend, I'd like to know whether this custom applies to local women only or every other woman who uses the metro. We'd like to stay together on underground trips, not only to feel safer, but also to be able to decide at which station to get off once the train stops.

Re: Cairo Metro/Underground
Hi Kris,
The frist carriage of the metro in Cairo is reserved for women who CHOOSE to use it. Local or foreign. Many locals do not use it as you will see.
Men are not allowed into this carriage. Couples travelling together will use the main cariages usually without any problems whatsoever.
