Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm going on the Thailand in Depth trip departing in September and wondered how arduous the trekking is on day 4/5?

I'm mainly asking as I want to know what footwear to take - I'm thinking I'll probably end up living in flip flops and canvas trainers/plimsole things the whole time I'm in Thailand and would rather not have to take hiking boots/shoes - will canvas trainers stand up to the task??

Also do we leave our baggage in Chiang Mai when we go to the village homestay and only take a daypack sized bag there for the night?

 Thanks

Sarah :o)

Chiang Mai Trekking - What Footwear Requried??

Hi Sarah,

One of my colleagues thought this might help:

I have done a 3 day 2 night jungle trek before independently and was very nervous and apprehensive about it, but it was nowhere near as hard as I thought, although the hilly areas were tough in the heat, we stopped plenty of times, and you won't be rushed. I wore just a normal pair of trainers; you want something you will be comfortable in and won't get blisters from! :) Alison

The trek is not what you would call strenuous, but you may find it hard at times depending on your level of fitness. On the whole though, you should be relatively comfortable doing it and as Alison stated, a normal pair of trainers will suffice.

In regards to your luggage, the group will not return to Chiang Mai after the village stay and instead continue onwards to Chiang Rai, so passengers will need to take their main luggage with them.

Many thanks and hope you have a fantastic trip!! :)

Thanks Stuart, that's really helpful. The only other thing was do I need to take my own malaria bed net?

Cheers,

Sarah :o)

Hi Sarah,

Taking a malaria bed net on this tour would be at your own discretion, but personally I would suggest there is no need to. The areas of Thailand that the tour visits are not in malaria zones/areas so it is not something you really need to take and can save yourself a small bit of space in your luggage. There may well be mosquitoes present but they will not be infected, so it would be your decision if you wanted a net to protect yourself from these, although a mosquito repellent will do the job perfectly well.

Many Thanks
