Re: digital camera

Hi Manda,

When I went to Egypt in Nov 07, I did not encounter any situations where it was differentiated between digital still cameras and digital video cameras. They were either allowed, or not. And I never had to pay to bring in my camera.

I have a nice digital camera (but not a spiffy looking one like an SLR) and it turns out mine does take mini movies too! But all the situations were either cameras allowed, or no cameras at all (like in Valley of Kings tombs, in Egyptian Museum).

I'm not sure which places in Egypt charge a separate fee to bring in a camera?

i also read you have to pay if you video tape at sites aswell, dont know if i read it on the web or lonely planet book

Re: digital camera

Hello Manda,

I took my video camera tp Egypt in March '99. I declared it on the way through customs & they stamped it on my passport. There was no charge.

The funny thing is that no one checked that I still had it when I left Egypt! The reason why you are meant to declare them is to avoid people selling them over there..........supposedly!

Hope this helps in some way.......Debbie.

Re: digital camera

Hello Manda

Like everyone else on this forum, I must concur that your digital stills camera will not be classed as a video camera, even if it does offer that function.
When that rule was stipulated they were mainly refering to broadcast-quality cameras used on tv and film.

I hope this helps ease any concerns you might have had.
