Egypt: Abu Simbel

In the Imaginative Traveller brochure I have, it it stated that the road to Abu Simbel was closed and that visits are only possible by airplane.
Has this situation changed already ?!
(or will it change before April/May 2000)

Good Day Kurt,

As of today the road to Abu Simbel remains closed. Authorities frequently send out press releases that the 'new road lights & petrol stations are now complte" but thus far there is no indication of when the road will open.

However, if the road opens at any time from now The Imaginative traveller will introduce
excursions by road from Aswan. In the meantime visitors can only get to abu Simbel by plane.
