We're interested in the Felucca Journey and want to check about facilities ie drinking water, washing & toilets etc - Also has the road to Abu Simbel re-opened? If not how much is the flight & does it fit in with the itinery of Felucca Journey?

Re: Egypt in September
Hi Christian,
The answers to your questions.
Facilities on the feluccas are basic, very basic. Some might say non-existent.
Washing is done by the side of the river. The water in the places we stop is usually pretty clean.
Toilet facilities don't exist. It's a question of strolling off into the bushes.
We do take care that people keep the beaches clean and your group leader will give instructions on our policy in one of the tour briefings. ((We also operate bi-annual 'patrols' to clean up the banks of the Nile along the stretch of river we use))
Drinking water is purchased in bulk prior to embarkation. Different leaders have slightly different methods, but essentially you will (either individually or collectively) purchase enough drinking water to last the duration of the trip.
The flight to Abu Simbel costs about 90 Sterling. Yes it is possible to fit the flight into the Felucca Journey itinerary though you'll need to make sure you inform your group leader at the start of the trip that you wish to visit Abu Simbel.
If you haven't bought your ticket in advance, you should do this at the start of thr trip too to give yourself the best chance of getting on the early morning flight.
Cheers
Martin
Re: Egypt in September
Hi Christian,
sorry. I forgot to mention that the road to Abu Simbel is currently still closed.
There hav ebeen rumours and promises of it being opened for over a year now, but no sign of action.
