Hi

I'm going on the Felucca Journey this August and was wondering if a roll mat is necessary/useful for sleeping on?

We also want to go down to St. Catherine's Monastery after the tour ends and would like some info. regarding best mode of transport, how long it takes, is it worth it?

Also, while I'm here, where would you recommend for beginner diving - Dahab, Sharm-El-Sheikh etc.?

Thanks

David

Re: Felucca Journey

Hi David,

You won't need a rollmat for the feluccas. The boats have thick foam mattrasses on deck.

Getting to St Catherine from Cairo is not hard. There are buses most days. It's about a 6 hour busride.

Diving for beginners?
are you a certified diver ? or do you want to take a PADI course.
If you want to take a PADI course, then you can do this in Dahab, Sharm el Sheikh or Hurghada. Which one you choose will depend on where you happen to be.
If you are certified, then it is a matter of personal choice. Each location has some excellent dive sites, though the best ones involve a boat trip to get to them.

If you plan to visit St Catherine, then Sharm or Dahab make sense. Dahab has a more relaxed, laid back atmosphere. That would be my choice.
