Hi,
I've traveled with IT before (on Adventurer and Traveler trips). I am considering rewarding myself for finishing my PhD by another IT trip and was thinking of doing a Connoisseur style one (specially looking at Vietnam). I am a little concerned, however that, being in my early 30s (may be mid by the time I'm done!) I'll be out of place as I know that the age range on tours tends to increase as you go from Adventurer to Traveler to Connoisseur.
Would I be out of place on such a trip?
Thanks.

Vietnam in Style - ages
Hi frontenac551,
Thank you for your post. It's great you are looking at our "Vietnam in Style" - I'd love to do this trip!
While it is generally true that the average age on a tour tends to increase as you graduate from Adventurer (least expensive and most basic) up to Connoisseur (most expensive and a higher standard of transport and accommodation, with more inclusions), it's never a concrete rule.
We still get people over 60 on Adventurer trips, and people under 40 on Connoisseur trips.
I've had a quick look at "Vietnam in Style" for 2009 and while most people already booked tend to fall into the over 50s bracket, there are also several bookings from people in their 30s and 40s.
Don't let it put you off that the overall age group is different from yours - one of the great things about a group tour is meeting people of different ages and backgrounds. In my experience some of the best people to travel with can be the over 60s, and I am sure they would not make you feel out of place.
Happy planning,
Regards
Kelly
Thanks Kelly.
I was worried that I'd feel out of place, but also worried that others might be bothered by having "the kid" tagging along.
I think I'm over worrying - I know my other trips did have a wide range (funnily, I now remember that I was the youngest on my first trip as well, whilst the oldest was about 60 and it worked great).
It does look like an amazing trip!
You're more than welcome!
Actually I think the best trip I've done was one that consisted of lots of people under 30 and one 65 year old man. He had a great time and even gave a speech at the end of the tour about how much he had loved it that everyone included him and he really felt like one of the gang.
Obviously I can't speak for the people who have booked the "Vietnam in Style" tour, but generally it's seen as a good opportunity to get to know younger and older people out of the context of daily life.
Best wishes,
Kelly
I have just returned from an Adventurer tour and the age range was from 28 to 62 - I am 32 and was one of only two people under 50 on the tour. I didn't feel out of place as such, but must be honest that I would have preferred to be on a tour with more people under 40, although that didn't stop me having a great time. I think that whether you are on an adventurer tour or a connoisseur you will find that most people are older than you, as it's a sad fact that most people under 30 at the moment won't have a lot of money to travel.
