Probably a silly question but on this tour is it enevitable that my wife and i will be ill with the indian food or am I being niave.
Does the group eat together or in the evenings do people do their own thing?

Re: Images of the Deep south
Dear David
Thanks for your question. I'm sure it is one on many people's minds coming to India.
No, stomach upsets are not inevitable when you visit India, but they can happen. Sometimes just a change of food and climate can lead to diarrhoea but this doesn't usually last long.
There are several ways to avoid getting a more serious case of the runs, by being careful about what you eat, what you drink and, though this might sound obvious, by making sure you wash your hands thoroughly before you eat. Many travellers nowadays carry a small bottle of antisceptic handwash with them, so that they can enjoy a tasty snack along the route.
The food in India is delicious, so I would hate you to miss out because you were worried about eating it. The Indians themselves are very particular about the freshness of their food, but if you do have concerns, then there is a vast variety of vegetarian dishes to choose from. Some people swear by drinking 'lassi' a yoghurt drink as a means of warding off infection.
Your tour leader will have favourite restaurants in the places the tour visits, and will inform you of them. Generally, the group does tend to eat out together, but, if you should feel like a change there is no problem if you would prefer to eat elsewhere.
I hope this has helped answer your question.
Have a wonderful trip.
Yours,
