I am looking at taking your Nile Safari tour tour next year and have been told that I MUST have a comprehensive travel insurance policy to be able to do the tour. I don't see that there is anything particularly 'dangerous' in the tour itinerary that needs insurance cover, and want to know why this is a condition? I thought insurance would be only really necessary if I was going to go diving or climbing or bungy jumping or seomthing like that with big risks?
Surely if I get sick of lose anything then this is my problem and I have to pay for things? I want to know why I have to fork out this extra expense for something that may not be used. Please explain!

Re: is insurance necessary on tour
Hi Sandra,
We do require you to have travel insurance if you want to take part on one of our tours.
Requiring clients to have the proper insurance is standard operating procedure for tour operators such as ourselves and it would be negligent of us to allow you on tour without any kind of cover.
If you were to take out insurance through The Imaginative Traveller it would cost GBP20.00 for 17 days cover (dependant on itinerary) which is a small price to pay for complete peace of mind.
Re: is insurance necessary on tour
Hi, I am not an employee of Imaginative Traveller, but have travelled around alot and have been a Travel Agent for a few years..It is a golden rule that you do not travel out of the country without adequate insurance. Medical expenes can cost you thousands of dollars, you can never be sure what could happen to you, even on a low risk trip. If you are planning to travel abroad do take out the proper insurance. If you can't afford the insurance, you certainly won't be able to afford to pay the medical bills...If you read any travel book to any country, or any other advise on travel, purchasing insurance is always listed as a must before leaving the country...I was on the Nile Safari last year, it is a great trip...falling off a donkey is definately a possibility!!
Re: is insurance necessary on tour
I cannot believe someone can seriously consider travelling without insurance. You've obviously been very lucky and never had anything bad happen to you. It is not just a matter of paying for lost things, it is a case of knowing that a professional doctor will look after you if you have an accident or fall ill (which you probably will in Egypt anyway ;-)
Please don't be so naive. You could also hinder and mess up the plans of the other travellers with you.
