Hi there,
I am booked in on the Jewels of Egypt trip leaving this weekend 20th Jan. Can you tell me how many others will be on it with us? And also will we need insect repellant spray at this time of the year?
Many thanks
Rachael

Re: jewels of egypt
From experience (just returned from Egypt Tour) - YES, you will need insect spray. Many of us were bitten!

Hello rach02,
There are 5 people booked on the Jewels of Egypt tour departing on the 20th January.
I hope that this helps

Re: jewels of egypt
Hi Rachael,
I travelled in November 2007 on Nile Safari so my travel times were different to yours. I must have been lucky (I'm usually a bug magnet!) because we weren't getting bitten back then - so much so, that I left the huge unopened can of tropical strength insect repellent I had brought. I gave it to my tour leader along with extra bottles of anti-bacterial hand gel to be left on the Melodie for any future travellers who needed it!
Have a fantastic trip!
Megan
Re: jewels of egypt
Hi rach02,
since no one has responded to my St. Catherine's monastery thread, when you get back could you post if it were possible to see the monastery after the mt. sinai climb.
Thanks!
Re: jewels of egypt
Was on the Nile Safari tour in June 2007 and after most of our tour climed Mt. Sinai we had time to go into St. Catherine's Monastery and wander about(it was a Tuesday). Very spiritual to see the Burning Bush and the old church within and to think that Moses had been there; it is very "visable" outside the walls of the Church as it is a large structure and visitors can stay overnight at the Monastery. Enjoy!
Re: jewels of egypt
When I went 1st January 2006 it was closed to the public. I think it is luck of the draw.

Re: jewels of egypt
We went the day before we climbed Mount Sinai, and just as well as we had a day to spend in St Catherines where there is absolutely nothing else to do but see the monastery. It is closed on Fridays and Sundays, so on the Saturday, when we visited, it was a seething tourist trap.... not my cup of tea at all, but the climbing of the Mountain made up for it!

Ms. Puppy:
I just responded to your original question about St. Catherine's. But it sounds, from subsequent responses, like the previous day's itinerary might be at the discretion of the tour director. We spent a lot of time lounging around in Dahab and didn't get to St. Catherine's until well after dark. It might be you could persuade your group to head on to St. Catherine's earlier and visit the monastery on Thursday. But they'll have to eat lunch somewhere, and some folks might prefer spending the time in Dahab or Sharm el Sheikh.
Re: jewels of egypt
If the monestry is something that you would like to see- just ask the tour leader and they will look into organising it for you!
