Hi,
Malaria has not been 'officially' recorded in Egypt for over twenty years. (Although some travel books do say Faiyum is a malaria hotspot)However you should follow the advice of your local health center. Mosquito spray and creams are always advisable to bring along on tour, these can also be purchased at local pharmacys in Egypt.

Hi,Doing Nile & Beyond. Starts with Beyond the Pyramids 19th Nov. Will we be going to Faiyum area on this trip? Want to decide if I should take Malaria tablets. My GP said only needed if visiting El Faiyum area. I'm taking the other jabs but Malaria tabs. gave me side effects last time (S.American country years ago). Just wondered if needed as we do visit the Siwa Oasis - is it a problem here? Thanks for yourhelp/advise, Showbi

The NAB will not visit Faiyum.
As to the malaria jabs, you should check with your doctor or travel advice center.

In our documentation we do not suggest any vaccinations for travellers to Egypt, but always refer clients to their doctor and travel advice centers. Siwa is in Egypt and the above applies. I would suggest a very strong mosquito repellent as Siwa is know for having daytime and nighttime mozzies.
If you are in doubt, even though the visa form is clear, contact the Egyptian embassy for clarification.
