Re: Money

Rakhee, It has always been my thought to have a back up. I travel with three. First..cash, second debit and then a credit card. I had my debit card eaten in Ireland. I cried. They sent it back home 3 months later. I also let my bank know that I am away. Take the phone numbers of the bank and credit card holder with you too!! Enjoy your adventure!!

Re: Money

I've done several trips to India and have always just used my debit card (also with HSBC) to withdraw cash with no problems. Your tour leader will warn you in advance if the group is heading to a town or village which does not have ATM facilities. As long as you're happy to pay the withdrawal fee each time then you should have no problems. Cashing travellers cheques can be time consuming and you will need to always find something like a Thomas Cook or American Express office.

Re: Money

Hi Rak,

Thanks for your posting, I am sorry we have not been able to reply before now. Thanks to Neems and Babylon for your helpful advice, i second all of that!
so to summarise;
* Travellers Cheques can be hard and time consuming to change, advoid them if possible.
* Tell the Bank you are travelling to India and take telephone numbers with you just in case.
* Take cash where possible then you wont need to use your debit Card too much then maybe take a Credit Card for back up (not essential).
* Your Tour Leader will fore-warn you when and where you can get cash in advance so you wont get caught short!
Enjoy your trip and have fun,

Kind Regards,
