I know the road to Abu Simbel has been closed and it seems most posts here are from people flying out to see it. However, their posts are a few months old - any hope that the road will be open when I will be there in early March 2001? If not, can someone give me the price for airfares in US $. Thanks!!

I bought a ticket to Abu Simbel in May for next Feb. and it cost $160.00 US. However, the travel agent told me that the fare was subsidized by the Egyptian gov't and that after June, the fare would no longer be subsidized and would cost $265.00 US. So the best thing for you to do would be to contact a travel agent as soon as possible to find out the latest information.

Like you, we are eagerly awaiting the opening of the road to Abu Simbel.
Every six months or so a rumour starts flying around that the road will be opened.
The latest rumoured date is October 2000 but don't hold your breath.
Joan is correct. Whilst the road is closed, EgyptAir are offering subsidised (effectively half price) tickets for flights to Abu Simbel.
Once the road is open we will be offering excursions from Aswan by coach at a reasonable price.

I have booked for November 2000 and believe me the price has almost doubled. Part of that is because the NZD is diabolical against every other known currency!
