Hi, Part of my tour involves camping out on the felucca boats for two nights - in late Dec/Jan. Will it be very cold? Is a sleeping bag an absolute necessity? - will rugging up in a warm fleecy be o.k?... are there blankets for hire?
If i should bring a sleeping bag, what season rating should it be? ie. lightweight or 2-3 season (for 0 to below freezing temperatures?)

Re: sleeping bag - Egypt
Hi Mich_elle
During this time of year, in fact throughout the year, on the Nile you can experience extreme contrasts in temperature between day and night.
While you are sailing throughout the day the temperature will be very comfortable, but at night time this will drop dramatically. More so on the Nile, than in land, due to the wind and lack of land cover etc...
The Felucca will have a canopy that can be erected for protection against the sun during the day and dew and wind etc.. at night.
The deck is covered with mattresses and cushions and you will sleep "sardine style" across the boat, but please note that bedding is not provided, so you should definitely bring a sleeping bag for this time of year. It is better to be too warm and unzip your sleeping bag than to be too cold and not be able to do anything about it, so a 2-3 season sleeping bag would be ideal if you can bring one!
Cheers and have a good trip
