I am thinking of doing the Middle East Explorer tour in August. At 49 years young, am I likely to be the tour "Gran"? What are the temperatures likely to be? Will it be unbearably hot or do air conditioned coaches make it survivable?

Re: temperatures
Hi Tina,
Apologies for the delay in responding I have just been touring Jordan and Petra, which you might see very soon. One of the most magnificent sites in the world!
At 49 trust me, you will NOT be the tour gran. Our tours appeal to all ages. Ages in each group range from 22 to 65. Granted most will be in their twenties or thirties but those in their YOUNG 40's (STARTING LIFE!) should not be put off.
Temperatures in August: In Egypt it will be hot, about 36-38c daily in Cairo, 40-42 in Luxor and 46+ in Aswan. All coaches are A/C and this does make for a more pleasant journey. On the MEE tour you have little coach travel in Egypt so it's Train, Coach, Hotel and Cruise all in A/C.
The tours in summer are planned round the heat so that sightseeing is done in the early morning, before the heat gets unbearable and before the crowds arrive.
In Jordan and Israel it is a touch cooler. You cannot avoid coach travel but all are A/C. Amman will be on average 30-34c, Petra cooler at 28-30c. Jerusalem will be a delightful 28c.
The plus of travelling in August if that most people don't, and that means more of the sites to you and the group as oppose to the large crowds in the winter months.
Hope you decide to join in and have a great trip.
Cheers
Marty
