Hi We are booked for the Trails of Siam trip on Feb. 8 and have been informed that there is the risk of malaria during the hilltribe trekking. We have been advised to take medication to prevent malaria. Do most of your travellers do this and do you feel this is important? Are we provided with mosquito netting or should we bring some from home, or is this precaution unnecessary in your opinion? We value the judgement of the Imtrav staff.
We will be leaving from the Bangkok airport in the middle of the night. We plan to stay in the city (not at the airport). I assume it will be no problem to get a taxi to the airport. Is that correct?
We are anticipating a wonderful trip.

Re: Trails of Siam

Hi Bob & Rita,
Thank you for your post. Here is our replies with your questions listed...

Q1.

A1.
Most people do take precautions and we suggest everyone make a a visit to their doctor or local heath center for expert advise. Although Malaria isn't a huge problem in northern Thailand. Prevention is always better and we recommend bringing along lots of personal insect repellant.
Look for a repellent containing a high percentage of DEET - at least 35%.

Q2.
Are we provided with mosquito netting or should we bring some from home, or is this precaution unnecessary in your opinion?

A2.
Mozzie nets are provided in most of the village stays. If one hasn't been provided the guide or tour leader will surely be able to rustle up one. No need to bring one.

Q3.
We will be leaving from the Bangkok airport in the midddle of the night. We plan to stay in the city (not at the airport). I assume there will be no problem in getting a taxi to the airport. Is that correct?

No worries! Bangkok is the land of Taxis at anytime of the day or night. The helpful staff at any of our hotels will provide assistance.
