Hi Forum users!

Just an update on some of the things we have updated on the new forums, i hope you like them.

As you can see we have added in some colours so they are easier to view and we have made sure the top post is at the top and in the darker colour so you can view it.

We have also brought back the post count, so you can see how many posts you have added over time.

You may notice we have the travelling donkey icon on every post, basically you can go on and add in your own icon or picture. This can be done in the "profile" setting where you first log in. If you go to that and then "Edit" you have the option to upload a profile picture. If you dont want to upload your own picture then it is really easy to download an icon off the internet.

On this page you can also opt in to receive private messages from people. Obviously you can go back and opt in and out of this as you wish.

If you wish to private message someone you just need to click on their name in the forum and if they have opted in to receive messages then you can message them. However if you do start to receive unwanted messages from someone you also have the option to block them.

I hope you like them as much as we do and enjoy meeting and discussing on our forums again! Let me know if you have any feedback!

Thanks,

Louisa

Re: Updated Forum

Hi Louisa,

overall I think you made a good step forward; the design is far better than before ... entries are clearly readable and separated.
I still have some trouble with the order of entries ... my expectation is basically to see the newest entry first without scrolling. ... for some topics I do not even see to what they are ordered ...

The personalization options are nice (also the way they are now integrated in other functions on your website .. hope this will be extended in future) ... although I find it a bit questionable to use a 'donkey' as the default user picture ;-)

There are still some items I am missing in the new forum software:
- an overview of the new entries over the last 24 hours (or even since the last visit)
- formatting options (from 'bold' to 'bullets'), emoticons ... all those things you could do with UBB-code on the old forum
- the 'Preview' function still needs some work

Just my two cents,

Bjoern

Updated Forums

Hello Louisa,

Thanks for the info. However the pic I had used for many years as my icon, I do not have any more. Is it possible for someone to find that pic for me, so that I may use it again?

I have not had a chance to go through the "new" new forums, but will do so later today.

I am very pleased that we will be able to PM others. I too do not feel comfortable using a donkey as my icon, just my own thoughts!

The smilies were a good thing & I would like to see them brought back.

Must go, will try to be back online later today.

Many thanks...........Debbie

On the other hand, I prefer bottom posting. I read from top to bottom and like seeing the original post on top with all the others following.

new forum

hey while agree the new forum now does have some of the better features the order of teh posts is very confusing, they should either be last post first or last post last not a mixture of the two, the post in this topic are in a strange order making it hard to read

Hi all,

Glad you like the updates! Please bear with us on the order, we have put it so it shows the newest post first, but it seems to be a little temperamental!

Bjoern has been able to upload his pic, so have a go and replace with a new image, i personally like the donkey, but hey like everything its down to personal choice! I'm sure we will update over time.

I'll have a look at your requests and see if there is anything we can do, mine shows when new posts are on since the last time i logged in.

Thanks for your comments and keep them coming!

Cheers,

Louisa

Adding a new topic

Hello, I feel kind of stupid but I am having a hard time finding where I add a new topic under the Egypt section. I am hoping to find others that are going on my tour.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your post. No, you're not being stupid!

Normally when you enter a forum there is a link at the top of all the existing topics for you to "add a new topic" but it seems to have disappeared!

I've reported this and will let you know when it is back in place.

Sorry for the inconvenience but I am sure it won't be long until this is fixed.

Best wishes
Kelly

Adding new topic - fixed!

Hi Adam,

I'm pleased to tell you that the problem with adding a new topic is now fixed and the link has now reappeared.

If you go into the forum where you want to post there is now a dark green button at the top of the threads which says "Post new forum topic", so if you click on that you should be able to go ahead.

Any more problems, please let us know!

Best wishes,
Kelly

Forum ordering

Hi guys!

In a continued effort to listen your comments and feedback on the forums we have reset the order so now the original post is still at the top and users can scroll down to read the posts as they have been added. We feel this gives users more of a "story" as you read the post. So essentially the most recent post will be at the bottom of the thread.

Hope you like it! And happy forum posting!

Louisa
